Ben is a BASTARD!
This is fact!
OK! So I messaged him this morning to say I was in the world's most comfortable bed, with cats on my feet, woken up to the smell of breakfast on my side table and Goldfrap on TV, but this is NOTHING compared to phoning me up and letting me listen to Performance for 23 seconds, hanging up and saying he was so close to Joe he practically had his tongue down his throat...
ARGH!

I did wonder what it was meant to be, the only thing i could hear was chris saying "Arron, Hello!" BUT...oh you silly people, I actually feel sad for you all.

haha, go bea! and there was no cheese. none. not even a shaving of cheddar. tsk. and me and chris had a massive chip fight because i bought a sandwich and he and simon ate it. greedy bastards. and then we went to satan's hollow. i don't really care about missing the gig because i have actually seen performance twice now and i didn't really feel like being sweated on a third time. so ner.

Don't tell anyone, but We have our own funding from the UMSU Arms Trade (oooh, controversial, and not true)

Don't tell anyone, but We have our own funding from the UMSU Arms Trade (oooh, controversial, and not true) Dont you dare get me started on this... trying to take away (or possibly have taken) a fair amount of aerospace engineers' job prospects. EDIT: To make it clear the companies they were talking about were aerospace engineering companies including rolls royce (who make engines, you know to power your commercial airliners) and BAE systems (who as the name sounds make systems, typically defense systems to be used in, yes military and civil aircraft, for example the eurofighter, now who is buying the eurofighter could it be EUROPE? who now generally only do peace keeping duties?). The other 2 that were mentioned were GKN (who are a conglomerate and as an example make parts of engines, wings and the driveshaft for the land rover discovery) and Smiths Aerospace (who make a whole load of electrical and mechanical systems, for a combination of commercial, business and yes again, military vehicles). Now I'm not saying they're not involved in military based projects but they're mainly in high performance aircraft and are the main research into engines, structures and electronics which filter down into commercial use and other applications like computers. Also its all in the defense industry, "Arms trade"? give me a break. The defense industry is one of the biggest in this country, are the main funding behind research of all kinds and its not like these companies are making AK47's or other guns. Do you know how many AK47/74's there are? If I remember rightly there is one for every person on the planet. Wouldn't it be better to campaign for the destruction of some of these? Arghhhhhh! Sorry, thanks for reading (if you did), this topic just really annoys me because if the university have no links with industry, it means that the Professors/Lecturers/Post-grads have no-one giving them research (which can be cutting edge research), no funding for the department, and means its even harder to get a job for students. Ahh I need to calm down. Anyhoo thanks for reading, the rant is now over...I guess I did get started on this...sorry!

i agree, surprisingly. to quote arron on MSN: >>Arron<< says: well neither do i, its the "social anthropology" students with time to campaign for stupid causes. I think that a lot of people simply read the headlines and don't look at the underlying facts. It's like if I exclaimed "MY MOTHER IS DYING" in print and then the rest of the article went on about my mother's hair colour, most people will still simply just send me condolences. I agree that it's important for companies to look into things like this anyway; how many pieces of military equipment have ended up in civilian hands anyway? Night Vision and Infra Red goggles for example, save lives. Now, i'm not necessarily saying that this will be true for everything, but the companies involved aren't directly in the arms trade at all. It's like blaming the people who mine the metal for the bullets for the guns for killing people.
