how can you be pantheist and monotheist? that's a contradiction, surely (RS A level there, marvellous).

Christians have this amazing truth that exists to serve as the meaning to their life. They are totally sure that this is right.. they are able to reduce absolutely everything down to this truth with convincing arguments. So it fulfils that desire for meaning, and gives a point to everything that we do. Plus they can gain contentment for that.

yeah but couldn't you say the same thing about islam, or pretty much any other religion? in fact, the "amazing truth" is in effect the same one for all religions, just under a different name. why christianity? why can some people manage without the level of comfort and security religion provides whilst lots of people still need it to cling on to. is it really just the sense of community and religion as a social means? in that sense this society is more of a religion to me than Christianity, and i come from a christian background.

Religion simply serves as a way for people to direct their own morality, which i think is a much more personal thing than a book.

Religion is for people who cant accept that there is no point to life, and lets face it you have to be pretty gulsble to believe in any religion, they all have alot of inconsistancies in them and the big questions are never answered!

Just looked mono-pantheism up. Apparently they believe in an immanent God. Not an imminent God, cos that would be a God who was just about to appear or something. God's never gonna appear, let's be honest. he must be pretty bored by now. if he wants us to believe in him then just bloody talk to us, we don't bite! I don't understand how people can believe the Bible - what about all the bits that contradict the other bits? - there's so much divine intervention in there. virgin births, people rising from the dead, blokes in palestine doing werid trippy things etc. and now? er, americans shouting a lot. There've been no genuinely verifiable divine experiences, ever, as far as i know. Everything's just hearsay, word of mouth and faith (ugh faith: belief without reason). It seems like a pretty odd coincidence that as soon as we're able to test and prove and record events beyond doubt (and beyond putting them in an ancient, inconsistent, stone age text) things stop happening. Christians must be tearing their hair out. Well, maybe not, they're probably quite calm and happy because they have the opium of religion. I don't like religion. I realise it brings comfort and security to loads of people, but that bears nothing whatsoever on its truth value. i'd rather not be comforted by a falsehood. anyway, it all depends on your upbringing: God would be well out of order to punish people for not believing in something they've never had any exposure to. so in a way it's arbitrary. who believes in hell? has anyone seen that episode of south park where it turns out mormonism is actually right and everyone else is fucked?

something weird happened this morning. i needed a shower, but our hot water was out (as usual). i needed a shower so bad, i thought i would have one with freezing cold water. as i was preparing, i though "god, what i would give now for 10 minutes of warm water". the hot water came on then, for the exact time it took me to have the shower!!
i thought it was strange anyway, but im not gonna go all religious coz of it
